Born with an intellectual disability and lower limb spasticity, Hira’s journey is one of perseverance, creativity, and the transformative power of specialized education and vocational training.
From her first day at SKJ, it was clear that Hira possessed a creative spark. The teachers at the center, experienced in working with children with diverse needs, quickly identified her potential and crafted a personalized learning plan. Her education combined essential academic skills with activities designed to enhance her fine motor skills, which were crucial given her lower limb spasticity.
One of Hira’s favorite activities was arts and crafts. She exhibited a natural talent for creating intricate designs with paper, beads, and fabric. The staff at SKJ recognized that this passion could be nurtured into a valuable vocational skill. They introduced Hira to the center’s stitching program, a specialized course aimed at teaching students the art of sewing and tailoring.

The program was adapted to accommodate her physical and cognitive needs, ensuring she could learn at her own pace. The initial lessons focused on basic stitching techniques, handling fabrics, and understanding sewing patterns. Hira’s enthusiasm was palpable, and her dedication to mastering each step was unwavering.
Hira’s training also included essential business skills. She learned how to take measurements, cut fabric accurately, and understand customer preferences. The program aimed to prepare her not just for a job, but for potential self-employment, giving her the tools to become an independent seamstress.
